New Act Mondays: Mime, LEDs and Juggling

If you liked the switch from three acts to four in our new act blog last week, then good news! We’ve added four new acts again this week. And not three good ones and one to make up the numbers either. Four good ones! Just like last week. So how about we stop filling for time/word count and introduce them…

PAUL CURRIE

Silent comic Paul Currie gives mime a modern makeover in a hilarious comedy show that features props, puppets and – as you’d expect – very little speaking. Also, somewhat surprisingly, at the bottom of his biography he lists ‘voice over artist’ as one of his many talents, which while not shocking news, seemed worthy of comment.

TROUBLEMAKER: A TRIBUTE TO OLLY MURS

Who could have believed that when Olly Murs broke onto the scene during (… Wikipedia… “Olly Murs”…) the sixth season of the X Factor in 2009, he’d not only still be around almost a decade later, but there’d actually be entire tribute shows devoted to him… And according to this Wikipedia entry, he didn’t even win? … Troublemaker: A Tribute to Olly Murs is exactly the kind of show that Joe McElderry might have expected someone to be doing about him by now.

FIREFLIES

If you’ve ever watched ballet and thought “this is ok, but I wish it was covered in glorious LEDs” then boy oh boy, do we have an act for you. It’s this one. Classically trained ballet dancers, performing in bespoke LED costumes. Fireflies are brilliant in darkened rooms and at night time, absolutely useless in broad daylight.

STEVE ROYLE

Steve Royle is living proof that it pays to be versatile. If one of his stand up gigs starts going badly, he can always fall back on his juggling. If he’s messing up a juggling show, he can lighten the mood by telling a few jokes. Thankfully for Steve, he’s pretty good at both, so he’s not sweating it either way.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Instagram for more great entertainment ideas.
