Heliosphere @ York Minster

A couple of months ago, we were delighted to be contacted by the team behind the Northern Lights festival at York Minster. They wanted something spectacular for their charity fundraising evening and we were only too happy to oblige. Something bold! Something spectacular! Something nobody would have ever seen before! We put our thinking caps on and the result is the event that you can see in the photos below.

Put simply, we booked Heliosphere and floated an acrobat attached to an LED balloon through York Minster, over the heads of those dining on their meals. We work on hundreds of events each year and ever we were excited by the thought of this one. An entertainment act so modern and delightful gliding through the historic and beautiful architecture of York Minster. It was to be the perfect pairing.

How do you prepare for such an evening? The answer is of course is ‘with a lot of planning’. There are certain restrictions in place with regards to storing helium gas so the Heliosphere had to be inflated at the last possible moment. The acrobat had to be briefed on how the performance would go (though naturally, they have performed using the Heliosphere a number of times before) and the guests, well, the guests were simply told that they were to enjoy something absolutely astonishing. No matter what they had guessed, we can guarantee that the Helisophere was far better than anything they could have possibly imagined, bringing childhood images of Peter Pan to life and leaving everyone in attendance as giddy as children.

We could go on and on and on about the beauty of this event but we think it really is clear to see from the pictures. The photographs were taken by the absolutely excellent Duncan Lomax of Ravage Productions. Our huge thank-you to him for his tremendous eye.
