New Act Mondays: Fiddles, Duos, LEDs and Jam

With the weekend out of the way and Mother’s Day no doubt a roaring success, it’s time to start looking forward to a new week, and for us that can only mean adding four new fantastic acts to our roster of brilliant entertainers.

This week we’ve got plenty of music and everyone’s favourite type of diode (psst… psst… it’s the ‘light-emitting’ one). Read on for more…

NINA

Nero famously fiddled while Rome burned, which while not the best turn of events for Rome, at least shows a certain level of dedication to fiddling. Displaying similar levels of dedication, singer and violinist Nina is able to fiddle while singing, and performs a broad range of music covering everything from Celtic folk to pop covers. If you’re wondering what that’s got to do with the last Roman emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, it’s literally just the word fiddle and a name that begins with ‘N’.

DOUBLE A & THE BAY

Double A & The Bay are an acoustic duo performing pop covers from the 80s to the present day. But let’s be real here for a moment, they have a name that sounds like a fictional radio DJ duo from an early-90s TV show. You know, they’d do pranks and have phone in competitions for concert tickets and they’d say things like ‘You’re listening to Double A and the Bay taking you through to midday!’

RIOTRONIX

Having come up with the name ‘RIOTRONIX’ – perhaps the most futuristic thing I’ve heard since ‘cryptocurrency’ – there was no other course of action for this troupe of dancers than to wire themselves up with LEDs and create a spellbinding, high-octane stage show. They also offer a Tron-inspired DJ set to accompany their show which, if anything, is even more futuristic than the word ‘RIOTRONIX’.

HYDE FAMILY JAM

Since we’re awkwardly riffing on act names this week, what’s with these guys? What are they, a family owned business making a range of fruit preserves? Nope! In fact, Hyde Family Jam are a folk-infused foursome who cut their teeth busking across the country with their playful covers of artists including Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Amy Winehouse and The Fall.

That’s it for this week, but if you’re looking for more entertainment ideas; be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all the latest from Trevor George Entertainment.
